TWO Reading women's teams have booked their place in national finals to be played at the Lee Valley Hockey Centre at Olympic Park.

Their mainly young Rockets team crushed Redland 3rds 7-1 on Sunday in their England Hockey Tier 3 Championship semi final, with Lucy Scott scoring four goals for the second successive round.

Harriet Kay, with two, and Jess Mann were also on target for Reading, who will play Repton on May 5.

Also through to a final are Reading Under 18s who triumphed 5-1 at Harleston Magpies in the Girls' U18 Championships.

Having knocked out favourites Surbiton in the previous round, the young Blues made a confident start on Sunday with Alice Rolfe's blistering pace down the right flank causing problems for the Magpies. The pressure paid off and by half time they led 3-0.

After the break, the Magpies threw everything they had at Reading and pulled a goal back, but Celeste Spink and Gabi Dyer defended well at full back, while India Shakespeare blocked off a number of attacks.

As the hosts wilted, Reading regained control with Jess Minshull-Beech dominating midfield and Abbie Dixon making searing attacks. They added two more goals. while Manmeet Saundh was unlucky in having her effort disallowed.

On target for Blues were Zoe Hopkinson, Gabi Dyer, Robyn Cumberland, Anna Gutierrez and Emily Harris. They will play Ben Rhydding at Lee Valley on May 12.

The only disappointment for the Sonning Lane club last weekend was seeing the 1st XI go out of the Investec League Tier 1 Women's competition following a 2-0 defeat at Premier Division side Clifton Robinsons.
