READING’S Maria Tsaptsinos was a double gold medallist at the British Universities and Colleges Sport championships.
The 20-year-old, who attends Nottingham University, was on home soil for the event and she took the women’s singles title with a 3-0 (11-3, 11-4, 11-8) victory over Beth Roberts of Aberystwyth University.
Alongside fellow England international Danny Reed, Tsaptsinos added the mixed doubles crown by defeating Nottingham stablemates Adam Harrison and Letitia McMullen also in three straight games (11-5, 11-5, 11-7).
Tsaptsinos narrowly missed making it a golden hat-trick in the women’s doubles, having to settle for silver alongside Yolanda King as they were narrowly beaten 3-2 (15-13, 5-11, 11-5, 7-11, 11-9) by Angharad & Megan Phillips (Durham).
Tsaptsinos, who is hoping to secure selection by England for April’s Commonwealth Games and the Team World Cup in February, would like to thank her sponsors Tees Sport, Spire Dunedin Hospital and TASS for their continuing support.
