THERE were only three club matches on RDAA venues last weekend, with one each on the Kennet, Thames and Kennet & Avon Canal, writes Alan Hughes.

Courage/SE held their match on the Wallingford B stretch of the Thames.

This has always been an excellent stretch of water and it lived up to the promise by providing Tony Tibble with 25lbs 15ozs of silver fish.

Chris Humphreys claimed second place with 12lbs 11ozs which included a bream plus silvers and completing the trio was John Jackson with 11lbs 110zs of silvers.

Pangbourne AC travelled to Froxfield to fish their match on the A section of the Kennet and Avon Canal.

Paul Leek took the honours with 10lbs 8ozs which consisted of a bream, skimmers, roach and perch.

John Nicholls claimed second place with 9lbs 2ozs of mainly perch and third place went to Mark Holmes with 7lbs 2ozs of small silver fish.

Excelsior A.C. were short of numbers due to illness so cancelled their match on Ufton River, but continued to pleasure fish it.

George Smith had a good day catching a specimen chub of 6lbs 6ozs and losing a bigger one at the net. He also netted two perch of 2lbs 4ozs each.

Away from RDAA waters and Reading Fishing Club visited the Thames at Goring.

Terry Littlewood took top spot with 16lbs of skimmers. He only had two small fish after two hours and decided to chase feeder fish, and by the end he could not stop catching skimmers in excess of 1lb each.

Dave Bosher claimed second spot with a feeder caught net of chub to total 14lbs 6ozs. George Callaghan completed the trio with 7lbs 9ozs of roach.

The Tuesday Club travelled to fish the Thames at Goring and Littlewood continued his recent form with another victory, although this one had to be shared with Martin Smith.

They both weighed in 14lbs 6ozs, but had different species. Littlewood netted an all chub net and Smith had a mixed bag of nearly all river species.

Third place went to John Berry with 8lbs 3ozs of mainly roach.
