READING Roadrunners are celebrating their 30th anniversary this weekend.

Club members will be off – perhaps running – to the picturesque Queen’s Oak in Finchampstead for a barbecue and party on Saturday.

Some of the profits made during the afternoon will be donated to the club’s charity, The Cycle-Smart Foundation based in Milford Road.

The club are also marking their birthday by publishing a book, written by members and covering a variety of running-related topics.

The publication will cost just £3 and those unable to get to Saturday’s event will be able to purchase a copy from the front desk at Palmer Park Stadium as from next Wednesday evening.

  • JUST days after a fun fair arrives in town, Woodley United FC jump on the so-called managerial merry-go-round with Michael Herbert leaving the club on Monday.

Last season he led them into the Hellenic League Premier Division for the first time and won the Berks & Bucks Saturday Intermediate Cup, making him the most successful manager in the club’s history.

Sadly, success no longer guarantees a manager his job.

On the same day as Herbert’s surprise departure, Bracknell Town parted company with their team boss, Mark Tallentire, following differences of opinion with his club chairman, Kayne Steinborn-Busse.

Last season he brought the club more glory than any of his predecessors ever managed, finishing runners-up in the Hellenic League in addition to lifting three cups.

Following eight wins and a draw, Bracknell lost their unbeaten league record 3-0 at Thatcham last Saturday, and within 48 hours Tallentire was out of a job.

But rumours all was not peaceful between the chairman and manager had started to surface after Town had been held to a 2-2 draw by Highmoor Ibis earlier this month.

Like many other managers at their level of football, Herbert and Tallentire have in recent weeks suffered from lack of availability of players, with injuries, holidays, stag dos and birthday parties.

With Hellenic League fixtures kicking off earlier than ever, on August 1, more players decided to take summer holidays after the season had kicked off.
