READING’s super-welterweight star Asinia “D’Ghost” Byfield has relinquished the Southern Area title in order to concentrate his efforts on winning the British crown at the same weight.

He will now fight Tony Dixon in a British title eliminator on the York Hall Brawl show on Saturday, October 7.

Hellraiser promoter and manager Mickey Helliet said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Asinia to put himself in a position to fight for the British title, which has always been our ambition.

“Asinia has proven himself to be of a very decent level and has improved massively over the last 12 months. He’s been sparring with world class fighters recently and is doing very, very well.

“To be able to go on a live national show on Channel 5 and showcase his talent to the whole nation and overseas is reward for the massive amount of hard work he’s been putting in. As he’ll no doubt tell you, this is only the beginning.”

The Cyclone Promotions event, in association with Hellraiser Boxing, features Andrew Selby headlining against Maximino Flores in a WBC flyweight world title eliminator, and Robin Dupre gets a shot at the Commonwealth Cruiserweight belt where he faces fellow unbeaten Luke Watkins.

Three other promoted fighters also appear on the bill – “Hollywood” Joshua Ejakpovi, Gelasius Taaru and debutant Terry Russell.
