BOBBY Wilkinson, who has close links with Reading FC, rocked the non-League football world by resigning as Hungerford Town’s manager after seven years on Saturday.

Assistants Jamie Leacock and Mike Percival also left the Vanarama National League South club following their 3-2 defeat at Welling United.

Wilkinson, who through his car valeting company often cleaned the cars of the Royals squad while they were training at Hogwood, said he wouldn’t be out of the game for long.

He had been linked with the vacant manager’s job at Torquay United, who have made a dreadful start to the season and are currently sitting bottom of the National League, but yesterday (Wednesday) confirmed he had joined Wealdstone, also of National League South.

He clearly wasn’t happy and on his return to the pavilion he appeared to show his frustration by kicking over a chair.

Unfortunately for him, the incident was caught on video, which has been viewed many times this week via twitter.
