READING boxer Asinia Byfield saw his stunning title victory over Sam McNess spiral into chaos when a mass brawl erupted in the crowd.

The 28-year-old defended his Southern area super-welterweight crown in sensational style at the Copper Box in East London on Saturday night.

But seconds after the fight had ended violence broke out among Byfield's fans and McNess supporters when bottles and chairs were used as weapons.

It has been reported that McNess' fans started the melee after watching their boxer come off second best against his opponent from Reading.

There was no love lost between the two fighters in the build-up, with Byfield winding up the home following by suggesting he could walk through West Ham's East End home with his trousers down if he chose to do so.

Unsurprisingly, there was huge support for McNess on the night as a chorus of I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles – West Ham's club anthem – and Knees Up Mother Brown echoed around the Copper Box in Stratford.

But it was clear McNess would need more than passionate support to help him against the superior Byfield, who was well on top by the end of the second round.

A flurry of big right hands from Byfield stung McNess in the third before the local hero somehow survived before strongly fighting back.

Yet by the end of the round Byfield was back on top as McNess desperately clung on for the bell.

There was no letting up from Byfield in the fourth as he used his powerful jab to great effect to unsettle McNess even further.

McNess somehow survived the round, but Byfield stepped it up again in the fifth as the blows rained down on the struggling McNess before his corner finally threw in the towel to avoid an even bigger battering.

But as Byfield celebrates in the ring a sickening scrap broke out between the two sets of fans in the vicinity of women and children as the ring MC appealed for calm over the microphone.

Troubled flared for the next 20 minutes as stewards battled to gain control and the fight announcer warned supporters they were being filmed by police.

The ugly incident almost led to the cancellation of Anthony Yarde's headline fight against Richard Baranyi for the WBO European title.

However, the contest went ahead after a lengthy delay, with Yarde winning in the first round.
