TWYFORD put last week’s heavy Kennet League defeat behind them with a solid 88-64 (12-2 on points) victory at home against Reading B, who just managed to avoid the whitewash with a one-shot win on the third rink.

There was a return to form for Brian Stain who skipped Mick Kenway, Peter Garraway and Wayne Manley to a 31-15 victory and Barry Carter was next best, winning 24-16 with Mick Walker, Dave Johnson and Gordon Wheeler.

Mike Self, Tony Turner, Keith Oxley and Nick Orde scored 12 shots in four ends to snatch a 19-18 victory after being 15-5 down.

There was another strong performance from the over 55’s KLV League side who beat high-flyers Maidenhead Town A 54-52 (8-2).

Carter continued his recent run of good results and was never headed in a 22-15 win along with Jim Walter and Jim Turner.

There was a similar performance from Brian Stain with Tony Turner and Paul Hynes, winning 23-17.

Twyford won a mixed friendly 92-82 against Great Hollands, a match in which three of the five rinks ended up in their favour.

They were also victorious in a friendly 104-57 against Maiden Erlegh, and a ladies friendly 38-33 in a game reduced to 14 ends due to the extreme heat.

  • BERKSHIRE Ladies overcame Buckinghamshire 123-107 in the six-rink John’s Trophy, being successful in four of the six rinks.

They will play Oxfordshire in the next round.

However, in the two-rink Walker Cup, they lost to the same opponents 51-30.

Berkshire Past Presidents comfortably defeated Thatcham 37-23 in a friendly.

The victors won all three rinks, with the stand-out performers the team skipped by Joy Holmes with Joyce Evans and Teresa O’Connor.

They were plus nine shots, while the triple skipped by Gillian Chamberlain won by three shots and Sue Young’s by two shots.

Berkshire also defeated Wiltshire 97-71 in a friendly where the top rink was skipped by Marion Booth with Sandra Thomas, Cathy Hope and Rita Littleford. There were plus 20 shots.

  • IT was a week of mixed fortunes for Three Mile Cross, the highlights of which were a 73-70 (10-4) win for the men’s A team in the Kennet League against Desborough and the ladies’ 56-47 (8-2) success against Woodley in the Thames Valley League.

In the KLV League, Three Mile Cross A lost 58-41 (10-0) to Suttons, and the B team went down by the same margin to Wokingham.

Friendly match losses were recorded against Hungerford and Great Hollands.
