DEPLETED Reading AC U17 and U20 teams put in a brave effort at the Youth Development League meeting at Team Norfolk, with some fine individual performances.

Most competing athletes achieved season best performances and Reading won 15 events, starting with Issy Gilkes in the women’s Under 17 100m.

Nick Wiltshire claimed the men’s U17 1,500m, while the following were also victorious – Alex Sutton (U20 3,000m), Kirsty Walker (U20 3,000m), Harry Henson (U17 400m hurdles), Jacob Rakjumar (U20 high jump), Sanmi Oguniela (U20 B high jump), Peter Holt (U17 pole vault), Blaine Lewis-Shallow (U20 400m), Charlie Ashdown Taylor (U20 long jump), Leah Spratley Kemp (U17 shot putt), Angela Lowe (U17 hammer), Oliver Matthews (U17 javelin), Katie Holt (U20 javelin), Chloe Zmuda (U20 B javelin).

The closest finish came in the U17 women’s 4x100m relay team where the team were pipped at the line and came second by just 0.03 seconds.

A total of 24 personal best results were achieved on the day. Angela Lowe broke the club record with a PB in the shot putt, while two athletes achieved three PB’s on the day – Sophie Pritchard (80m hurdles, 300m hurdles and pole vault) and Oliver Hewitt (shot putt, discus and hammer throw).

Darcey Smith (800m and 3,000m) and Rahim Benson (triple jump and 400m hurdles) achieved two, and other athletes who achieved PBs were Walker (3000m), Ashdown Taylor (Long Jump), Melody Batt (300m), Joseph Mott (800m, pictured), Emily Glanville (100m hurdles), Daniel Animashaun (400m hurdles), Caitlin Stacey (shot putt), David Nawah (long jump), Alex Spratley Kemp (Discus), Princess Young (long jump), Eleanor Hoyle (discus), Leah Runnacles (hammer) and Joel Cable (javelin).
