COLLECTOR Roger Bampton has asked this column to help him find football programmes from old Berks & Bucks FA Cup finals involving local teams, most of which are no longer in existence.

He is seeking B&B Saturday Junior Cup material from the 1971-72 season when Shinfield were the winners, 1973-74, won by Thames Vale, and 1989-90 when Old Presentations lifted the trophy.

As for the Sunday Junior Cup, Roger is missing items from Torpedo, who were losing finalists in 1969, Southlake, who were runners-up in 1972 and winners two years later, and Woodley Vikings, victorious in 1979.

His Sunday Intermediate Cup collection is missing Theale material when they triumphed in 1974 and again the following year, plus Dee Roof Vikings, who lost in the 1984 final.

Finally, Roger is seeking a programme of Victory winning the Sunday Junior Trophy in 1984.

He said: “Even if people don’t have the actual programme of the games, perhaps they have some material, like newspaper cuttings I can look at.”

If any reader can help him, then please let me know and I will pass things on to Roger.

  • IT’S a sad sign of the times that the Berks & Bucks FA are planning to appoint an investigation officer.

His, or her, task will include looking into and collecting evidence of misconduct in matches.

If this season is anything to go by, they are going to be kept busy.

There have been several reported incidents in recent weeks, two involving the same Thames Valley Premier League club in separate matches on the same day, as well as the Reading Senior Cup semi-final between Binfield and Woodcote Stoke Row. Investigations are still taking place.

  • READING Hockey Club men’s first-team skipper Tom Carson was unable to play in the HA Cup final due to England commitments, but his family did not miss out as there were winner’s medals for his brothers Ed and James.

However, Tom now boasts a gold gong himself, having been part of the GB squad which won the Azlah Shah Cup by beating nine-times champions Australia 4-3 in Malaysia last weekend.
