TIDMARSH C claimed the Reading & District League Division Three title ahead of long-time leaders Pangbourne WMC B with a 9-1 success over Kingfisher J in their final match – maximums for Lee Calcutt and Simon Barter with two wins in support from Dave Sheppard.

Nils Wedi saved the whitewash for Kingfisher.

In the individual performance stakes both Phil Burke and Lee Calcutt went through the season with only one defeat each – but the former just took top spot in the averages - his 97.78% a fraction ahead of Calcutt’s 96.97%.

In their bid to avoid the drop from Division Four, Tilehurst Methodists D just came short when losing 6-4 to Reading FC A, Jazz Dhillon hitting a good maximum for the winners.

Eric Walker was the star for Sonning Common & Peppard F who won all three to help his side to a 6-4 win over Curzon Club B. Sonning need just a point from their final match to overtake Springfield B for the second promotion spot.

Andy Stevens hit a three-straight maximum against Tilehurst Methodists E, and with Dave Edwards and reserve Steve Andrews winning two, this helped Tidmarsh D to an 8-2 win.

In Division Five, Sonning Common & Peppard H put themselves in contention for the runners-up spot by beating Springfield D 8-2, Gerry Bacon recording a maximum and Mike Casserley and Julian James winning twice. Stephen Leggett replied for Springfield with a double.

Not to be outdone, Reading FC B – The Biscuitmen – replied with a 10-0 victory over Springfield C to take over second place, on games difference, thanks to maximums from Joe Bull, Paul Brown and Keith Greene.

The final match of the season pitted Sonning Common & Peppard H against Reading FC C – The Royals – with SC&P needing to avoid defeat to guarantee themselves the runners-up spot.

However, it was not to be as Reading FC burst out of the blocks to lead 5-2 after winning the doubles, Wayne Alleyne and Harry Edwards retaining their unbeaten partnership with a tightly contested 12-14 11-9 13-11 13-11 victory. Edwards then proceeded to beat Bacon, ensuring both points for Reading FC and the runners-up spot for their B team, before Derek Anderson and Alleyne continued their recent run of fine form, both winning to complete their trebles.

Reading FC A suffered double heartbreak as they missed out in both the final of the Team Handicap and the Lower Divisions competition. Our Lady of Peace E won the Handicap event, while Tidmarsh D pipped their fellow Division Four rivals to win the Lower Divisions Cup.
