KINGFISHER A took the Reading & District League Division One title after beating nearest rivals Our Lady of Peace A 7-3.

Martin Gunn, Martin Adams and Mark Banks picked up two wins each for the champions, while Daniel Moses hit back for OLOP with a fine treble.

YMCA won their bottom-of-the-table clash with Sonning Common & Peppard B 9-1, Neil Hurford and Dave Halfpenny unbeaten on the night, while Nigel Maltby managed a 12-10 6-11 11-3 11-8 win against Pete Bradley for Sonning Common.

Tidmarsh A ended their season on a high with an 8-2 victory at Kingfisher D, Csaba Pall and Sam Ricks with trebles.

Kingfisher B were also 8-2 winners as they won at Our Lady of Peace B thanks to hat-tricks from Hari Gehlot and Dmitry Khakhamov.

Barry Carter, Jon Golding and Mike Aistrop doubles saw third-placed Tidmarsh B win 6-4 at Pangbourne WMC A in their final Division Two match.

John Willcocks and Jon Willis trebles nudged Sonning Common & Peppard D down as Curzon Club A’s 8-2 win relegated them.

Tilehurst Methodists A completed a remarkable escape from the drop with Peter Galea and Phil Jones maximums in their 8-2 win over Sonning Common D the previous week and benefitting from a 10-0 walkover against Our Lady of Peace C.

In the top-of-the-table clash in Division Three, Tidmarsh C claimed the second promotion spot in style with an 8-2 thumping of leaders Pangbourne WMC B – maximums for Lee Calcutt and Simon Barter.

Tidmarsh need a point from their last game to clinch the title.

At the lower end of the table, basement team Tilehurst Methodists C signed off with a 10-0 defeat at home to Kingfisher J – maximums for reserve David Wells, Nils Wedi and Joaquin Munoz Sabater.

Tilehurst Methodists B joined Kingfisher J in moving up and out of the bottom two thanks to a 6-4 win at Kingfisher I - a maximum for John Virgo and a brace for Jes Eassom - two wins in reply for Kingfisher's Eric Holmes.

The second relegation spot falls to the team of the three on 16 points with the worst sets' difference - and this is Sonning Sports A - who put up a brave show before succumbing to a 6-4 defeat at the hands of Kingfisher H - who themselves finish in a very creditable fourth position.

Igor Sremac with a maximum and Peter Bennett with two wins for Kingfisher whilst Keith Machin hit a double in reply for the Sports. In what proved to be the crucial set Igor came back from two games down to defeat Bob Woodmansee 7-11 9-11 11-9 11-7 12-10.

Finally the mid-table clash between Our Lady of Peace D and Milestone A ended all square - doubles for Dave Godfrey and Alistair Richardson for OLOP with Chris Collins and Arun Rajagopal replying in kind for Milestone.

Springfield B ended their Division Four season by sharing the spoils 5-5 with Reading FC A, for whom Jazz Dhillon hit a great treble.

A full-strength Tidmarsh D side stunned champions Milestone B 7-3 with Terry Hardie and Andy Stevens both gaining maximums, while Sonning Common & Peppard F maintained their late promotion bid by winning 6-4 at Our Lady of Peace E with Eric Walker and Simon Blake both obtaining doubles.

Kingfisher K avoided the drop by beating Curzon Club B 6-4 for whom Geoff Johnson and Derek Harrison both gained doubles, however David Wells was in top form for the Birds by winning all three.

By winning at Tilehurst Methodists E, Curzon Club C also avoided the drop. Carine Bey, John Walker and Terry Spice all won two each to give them a vital 6-4 win.

In Division Five, Springfield C had a narrow 6-4 victory over the BBC Club, winning the ninth and 10th sets to take both points.

The ninth set was pivotal, with combatants Chris Speight and Jack Mitchell both being unbeaten, Chris emerging victorious to complete his treble, whilst in the 10th set Tom Berryman beat John Scott to ensure he finished with two wins, John Scott and teammate John Lancashire both ending up with one singles win each.

Reading FC B - The Biscuitmen - retained their interest in second place with a good team performance, Keith Greene, Joe Bull and Paul Brown all winning two sets, which helped their side to a 7-3 victory over Tidmarsh E, for whom Isaac Davies recorded a double and Mike Bundy recorded a single.

Reading FC C - The Royals - had a pulsating encounter with Sonning Common & Peppard G, eventually running out 6-4 winners, after Wayne Alleyne beat Nick Palmer in the final set, to record a double, Derek Anderson having ensured Reading FC at least one point when he won the eighth set to complete his treble, Wayne and Harry Edwards having won the doubles earlier, to keep their 100% record and edge their team in front.

This meant that Legg’s double, along with singles from both Nick and Mikey Legg were all for nought. The BBC Club were in action again, the following day, this time losing 9-1 to Kingfisher L, Dave Pearson beating David O’Keeffe to record his team's one win, while Kingfisher's Clive Gold and Meriel Low both recorded trebles to guarantee their team a top-four finish.

Our Lady of Peace F finished the season strongly, recording their 18th victory, this time an 8-2 win over Milestone C, for whom Tony Hayden and John Evans each won one.

For OLOP, Laurence de Ste Croix was, once again, unbeatable, while Mariusz Paluszkiewicz and Hari Laddunuri both lost only one set each.

In their second match this week, Springfield C met with an 8-2 defeat at the hands of Sonning Sports B, for whom both Florin Dimofte and Cris Reynolds recorded trebles, Mike Gautrey chipping in with a single by beating Chris Speight, but losing out to both Rob Atack and Alan Goold.

The Lower Divisions Knock out Final will be between Reading FC A and Tidmarsh D following the former's semi-final win over Tidmarsh E.

Reading FC now have the chance to retain the trophy they lifted last season.
