WITH Reading Football Club being linked to several players on transfer deadline day, it wasn’t easy on Monday to decipher between genuine stories and those via ‘my mate’s next door neighbour’s window cleaner has seen so-and-so (include any name here) driving in the direction of Madejski Stadium.

Unfortunately, for a Reading-based website organisation they fell into the latter category quite spectacularly.

Spotting a jokey Twitter message from a fan, they published it on their website before realising the alleged player had the same name as a sex toy.

It was a low blow for the Reading tweeter and quickly removed, but not before it had gone viral.

  • OF Royals' three loan signings, it looks like Lewis Grabban had to be offered the biggest incentive.

As shown in the official signing-on photos, six cans of the sponsor’s drinks were placed in front of Grabban before he put pen to paper, while Reece Oxford and Jordan Mutch looked happy with four.

  • READING Cricket Club have discovered a way which could possibly bring in extra cash.

It’s the installation of a helicopter landing pad.

A luxury, multi-seater copter dropped in at their Sonning Lane ground last Saturday to pick up racehorse owner Max McNeill and fly him to the meeting at Cheltenham.

Sadly for the cricketers, they cannot seek any financial help from the local resident as he is president of Sonning CC and puts cash their way.

But the helicopter company are said to be “very interested” in making use of the ground.

McNeill didn’t have a runner at Cheltenham, but he did at Hereford yesterday with Chef D’Oeuvre winning by 30 lengths.

  • GREAT Britain’s gold medal-winning hockey team are looking to cash in on their Rio fame.

The high-profile players – who include four former Reading stars – now have representatives looking after their off-field activities.

Agents, of course, go around with £££s in their eyes, but an organisation keen for two players to attend a charity function were a little taken aback when told the fee would be £2,500 for each woman.
