AFTER a weekend when the cold weather put paid to any matches, the return to higher temperatures saw most of the ice disappear, but water temperatures did not get very high for the Sunday matches – with only two affiliated clubs fishing on RDAA waters, writes Alan Hughes.

Wallingford B section on the Thames was host to Tilehurst Royal British Legion and all of the anglers used the far bank feeder method looking for the resident chub.

John Smith managed to net five and he took top spot with 12lbs 4ozs. Similar species supplied second and third places with Tony Tibble putting four on to the scales for 8lbs 2ozs and Dave Finn with one decent specimen weighing in at 4lbs 12ozs.

Prestcold A.C. used the B section of the canal at Froxfield for their match and results were badly affected with the cold water. Graham Hawkins took top spot with small silvers to take 1lbs 10ozs to the scales.

Alan Hughes took the runner-up place with perch for 1lb 2ozs and completing the trio was Mick Donohoe with 1lb 1oz of mainly roach and gudgeon.

Reading Fishing Club fished the third of their four match pike series on their own Osier lake at Theale and it was Pete Evans who took the honours with one of the toothy critters weighing in at 12lbs 6ozs.

Jeff Ives claimed the runner-up spot with one pike weighing 12lbs 3ozs and club match secretary Keith Wilkins was back in third place with a pike weighing 7lbs 15ozs.

The RDAA Tuesday Club returned to Whitehouse Lake on the Stacey complex at Tadley. Some anglers struggled for bites and some including John Ambrose had good days.

Ambrose took 28lbs of bream to the scales to take top spot. Second place went to George Callaghan with 21lbs 4ozs that consisted of bream plus one carp, while Tony Holdsworth claimed third place with 7lbs 6ozs.
