PERFORMERS at Bulmershe Gymnastics Club put on a spectacular display at their recent ‘Back to the Movies’ gala.

Put on five times across four days to an enthusiastic audience of family, friends and supporters, more than 100 of the Woodley club’s gymnasts proved they were not just excellent competitors, but after weeks of rehearsals, they also could deliver an impressive show with some truly memorable performances.

Among the performers were future gymnastic stars with the youngest girls aged just five, and they delighted the audience with their charming Chitty Chitty Bang Bang display.

The six and seven-year-old artistic gymnasts were equally as delightful with brightly coloured umbrellas accompanying their Singing in the Rain routine featuring some impressive cartwheeling and backward walkovers.

Not to be outshone, the youngest gymnasts in the men’s artistic squad took to the floor in their Superheroes Medley and produced a well-coordinated routine showcasing how well they have begun to master basic gymnastic skills.

Proving how far the men’s artistic discipline has developed at Bulmershe, dynamic tumbling and high bar routines were on show from the older gymnasts with an exciting Star Wars routine and individual piece displays, while the aerobic gymnasts brought down the tempo showcasing their elegance and grace with an uncharacteristically slow paced routine to Flashlight from Pitch Perfect.

Other aerobic displays included the Senior FIG squad in their interpretation of All that Jazz from Chicago as well as a trip back to the 80’s with Footloose by the Junior FIG squad.

As well as some beautiful and well-executed individual routines on the floor and beam, the women’s artistic squad showcased how well they can perform together with their engaging routine, performed to soundtracks from the Wizard of Oz and Titanic.

The show closed with all the performers joining together in a fabulous performance of a Dirty Dancing medley.

Club manager Trina Farrance was delighted with the event and said: “We love to put on a fabulous gala performance every couple of years to show all the unique talents of our gymnasts to their families and friends.

“This year was no exception and I’d like to extend my thanks to all the coaching staff and gymnasts for their commitment in delivering another fantastic display.”
