MICK Stanley of Reading Fishing Club took the honours when 50 anglers competed on the Kennet and Avon Canal.

Fishing the second peg above the second “Ash Tree” above Lock 71 on Froxfield B Section, Stanley banked skimmer bream to 2lbs 8ozs along with perch to 2lbs fishing pole tactics, feeding groundbait and chopped worm and caster, with red maggot and worm on the hook to record a weight of 10lbs 5ozs.

John Ambrose of Reading Fishing Club was second. Fishing the last peg on the “Short Pound” above Lock 70 on Froxfield “A” Section, he banked skimmers and perch to 12ozs, along with roach fishing a combination of short pole tactics to hand and long pole tactics, feeding pinkie and chopped worm and caster, with red maggot and worm on the hook to record 9lbs.

Martin Hutchins of Excelsior finished third with 8lbs 3ozs, Steve Drakeford of Prestcold came fourth with 7lbs 10ozs and Jamie Andrews of Courage took fifth spot with 7lbs 4ozs.

Total match weight on the day was 189lbs 5ozs and the section weights were: A section 40lbs 9ozs, B section 24lbs 8ozs, C section 45lbs, D section 41lbs 13ozs and E section 37lbs 5ozs.

The top three teams on the day were Reading Fishing Club with 52lbs 7ozs, Courage with 30lbs 8ozs and TRBLAS with 27lbs 7ozs.

TRBLAS top the Club Championship with 183lbs 15ozs, Reading Fishing Club follow with 139lbs 8ozs and in third place are Courage/SE Club with 104lbs 3ozs.

The Individual Aggregate Weight Trophy is still headed by Liam Page-Smith (TRBLAS) with 30lbs 3ozs and club colleague Tony Tibble is in second spot with 25lbs 15ozs. Page-Smith also heads the points table with 36 points and Dave Ward is in the runner up position with 24 points.

The RDAA Tuesday Club fished on the Padworth stretch of the Kennet & Avon Canal and Mark Hornblow came out on top with one perch plus some small fish that totalled 2lbs 2ozs. The runner up spot went to Morris Williams who managed one perch to weigh in 1lb 8ozs.

Prospect A.C. fished their stretch of the Holybrook at Southcote and Roger Wilkinson took the honours with two chub plus a few silvers to weigh in 7lbs. The runner up was John Ingram with 3lbs 9ozs and Mick Simmons was third.
