READING Swimming Club’s Alfie Evans qualified to compete at the 2016 ASA National Winter Meet in the 50m and 100m butterfly events.
In the 100m, the 15-year-old broke the minute barrier to set a time of 59:52, while in the 50m butterfly he went on to set a new lifetime best of 26:73.
Acting head coach Lee Mallinson said: ‘It’s the first time Alfie has had to compete against the big boys which can be a little overwhelming.
“However, I was impressed by the way Alfie stepped up and appeared to relish the opportunity, which certainly bodes well for the rest of the season.”
