MOST Reading & District Angling Association clubs have completed their Christmas matches.

Only three took place last weekend, but with the weather staying mild they were hoping a few fish would grace the net.

Nineteen anglers turned out for Reading Fishing Club’s Christmas match, but there was no Xmas cheer to be had as the anglers failed to get any bites between them and all ended up with blank nets.

The Kennet has not fished well at all this year but this is now becoming a serious problem.

The other two RDAA matches were held at the Froxfield venue on the Kennet & Avon canal.

Courage/SE held their match on the A section. Despite plenty of colour in the water and mild conditions, weights were disappointing.

Top spot went to Aarron Phillipps with 4lbs 13ozs of perch and silver fish. Ian Claridge was runner up with similar species worth 4lbs 12ozs and third was Tony Claridge with 3lbs 14ozs of silvers.

Prestcold held their match on the B section at Froxfield and ended with results similar to those of Courage.

The winner was Kevin Harper with 5lbs 9ozs ahead of Geoff Eley with 5lbs and Paul Leek with 1lb 13ozs. The majority of fish caught were small silver fish.

The RDAA Tuesday Club fished their Xmas match on the Old Barlows and Whitehouse Lakes on the Stacey complex at Tadley.

Dave Bosher took the honours with skimmer bream and silvers weighing 19lbs 6ozs. Tony Holdsworth came second with two carp and a chub weighing 15lbs 14ozs and third was Keith Wilkins with two carp for 14lbs 8ozs.

There will be no report next Thursday, but the week after will include results from the RDAA Open at Froxfield on December 30th.

Spaces are filling up so book a place by calling match secretary Mike Sheasby on 0780 241 4317 or email mike_sheasby@yahoo.co.uk. The draw will be at 8am in the Sun Inn at Hungerford with breakfast available from 7am.

Finally, a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year to all Chronicle readers!
