READING Swimming Club members impressed at the Level Two Wiltshire Long Distance Open Meet, with seven competing and producing an 86 per cent PB strike rate.

Emily Cryer, 14, kicked off the morning proceedings in the 800m freestyle event, improving her time by about four seconds to record 11:57:57.

Alfie McGlennon, 13, then followed suit in the 1,500m freestyle by obliterating his previous time by 1:18; elevating himself to a new best of 18:57:06.

In the 800m freestyle event, 15-year-old Lily-May Smith came within a fraction of lowering her previous fastest time, still achieving an impressive effort of 10:28:54.

Elinor Anfield, 13, slashed her previous best by 26 seconds to 10:33:30, and 14-year-old Rachel Schofield shredded 17 seconds off her previous best to 10:16:60.

One of the youngest competitors, Rebecca McMenemy, 12, knocked just under six seconds off her previous PB, storming to a new record of 10:07:13.

Completing the performers was fellow 12-year-old Megan Phillipps, who powered her way to a new best of 10:12:68, beating her previous time by just under seven seconds.

Delighted acting head coach Lee Mallinson said: “I was really impressed by all of the swimmers’ attitudes, particularly their ‘on-day’ preparation at the meet.

“They warmed up maturely and effectively, and used the opportunity in the warm up to undertake pace work in preparation for their races which clearly reflected in their much improved race times at this meeting."
