READING & District Angling Association held their first senior match on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Froxfield this season last weekend.

Despite decent open match results at the venue, the canal had been frozen last week and temperatures on the day were very low.

Forty anglers competed and the K&A had a good colour and was towing slightly and frozen in places.

As this was the ‘Christmas Match’ the top 10 anglers plus each section winner received a prize.

Total match weight on the day was 95lbs 7ozs, at an average of 2lbs 10ozs per angler.

The top three teams were TRBLAS (28lbs 13ozs), Reading Fishing Club (16lbs 13ozs) and Courage (16lbs 11ozs).

Many thanks to those that turned out and to draw headquarters, The Sun Inn , Andy Chapman of TRBLAS took first place after fishing the first peg below Lock 69 in the Short Pound on Froxfield A section. He banked mainly skimmer bream to 1lb 8ozs along with perch and roach fishing groundbait feeder tactics, with worm on the hook to record 7lbs 2ozs.

Ian Claridge of Courage/SE was second overall. He fished the peg above the first ash tree on Froxfield B section and, using red maggot, banked perch to 1lb along with roach to record 6lbs 6ozs.

Prestcold AC’s Steve Drakeford fished the peg below the ash tree and banked a skimmer bream to 1lb, perch to 1lb and roach to record 5lbs 13ozs.
