Wow! Three nations all trying for the title and playing one after the other to add to the excitement.

First up it's Italy versus Wales in Rome, 12-30 kick-off, and I really can't see Wales letting this one slip through their grasp especially after France put 29 points on Italy, to no reply, last Sunday.

That's followed by Scotland versus the defending champions Ireland, at 2-30pm, and, you know, this is certainly not a cut-and-dried win for Ireland.

Scotland gave England a run for their money last weekend in the Calcutta Cup match before going down 25-13 and, playing at Murrayfield on Saturday could just be the inspiration they need to cause an upset!

England themselves, of course, face France at Twickenham in the 5pm kick-off. It will be no easy task for this young English team especially against a French side pumped up by their comfortable win in Rome last weekend.

Obviously I hope England triumph but, it's going to be a seat of the pants job isn't it!

So, all-in-all, a fascinating afternoon across the UK awaits all armchair fans.

Closer to home, all of the local sides are in action themselves including my boys Reading.

Mind you, they've got a big task on their hands with the visit of South West One East leaders Chippenham (3pm), so it definitely won't be an easy 80 minute run-out.

But after two successive wins that have made them safe in the league for next season, they've certainly got the bit between their teeth.

We gave Chippie a hard time down at their place earlier in the season so anything could happen and I'm sure the boys will be pumped up for this one, especially after having last weekend off.

It's also our `Past Players Day' at the club and we would love to see as many of you who can make it along.

Of the other local clubs? Well we certainly wish Redingensians Rams every success in their trip to Oxford Harlequins.

It's one of four games left to play for them and, I reckon, another win for them on Saturday would surely see them to the championship title.

They've done the bulk of the hard graft and surely they won't let the title slip from their clutches now!

As for Reading Abbey, they've just got two matches left to finish their BB&O Premiership season off with a 100% record.

I know that they are in a lower division but I can't recall any of the other Reading club sides going a whole season of league rugby unbeaten? Answers on a postcard too ….

Finally I must congratulate the Berkshire U20 lads on getting to Twickenham once again.

They saw off Eastern Counties U20s 32-20 at Cambridge RFC in their semi-final last Sunday to make it through to the final on May 3.

The side included Reading RFC's very own Ryan Smith plus Dan Barnes, who started his rugby career with us, while there was another ex-Reading man on the sidelines in the shape of Paul Roberts, who's been helping coach the forwards.

Berkshire U20 have done this before and we wish them all the luck in their bid to win the title again for the county.

What an achievement and my hat, if I had one, would come off to the U20s coach Mike Tewkesbury who's really having a bumper season as, of course, he's also the Rams head coach.

That's it from me. Enjoy your weekend!
