Prop James Baker and scrum-half Jack Hill also touched down to seal the victory which takes Rams closer to the National 3 South West title. They are now six points clear of Exmouth in second place.

Poole said: “We’ve six more games to go and I believe we can win the title if we all pull together.” Like the last time these two sides met, Rams were pushed all the way by the Gloucestershire side.

Skipper Andy Amor said: “They gave us a real tough test and it was only in the final 15 minutes that we were able to get two tries to secure the bonus point. But I was pleased with the character of my side all the way through and to come away with five points is job well done.” Amor produced a powerful tackle to prevent opposing fly-half Harry Preece from giving the visitors an early lead.

Rams were also forced to make changes, with hooker Ben Henderson (rib) and No.8 Gus Davies (gashed cheek) both going off injured.

Their respective replacements were Matt Weller and lock Owen Root, who was returning after a 15-month absence through injury.

Rams took the lead when flanker Azza Hopkins found Poole, who chased up and grabbed his own neat little kick into space to touch down and hand Luke Flower a simple conversion for a 7-0 lead.

The hosts came under pressure at the start of the second half and conceded a try to right wing Sam Smith that Liam Hemming to miss the conversion.

Rams, however, had the perfect repost as a big break from Flower opened up the Cents defences and it led to Baker crashing over in the left-hand corner.

Flower couldn’t convert and neither could the luckless Hemming six minutes later when Cents cut the deficit to 12-10 after centre Sam Goatley steamed over in the right-hand corner.

With Will Clark now on at scrum half and Jack Hill moving out on to the wing, Rams upped the tempo and a great period of possession was rewarded with a try from Poole with Flower adding the extras.

Shortly afterwards, Rams stretched their lead to 22-10. The ball came back from a ruck and Flower sent Hill scorching over, but too wide out for the fly half to convert.

With both Tom Bryson and Dave Massey picking up yellow cards in the dying minutes for killing the ball Cents took advantage when centre Ryan Townsend powered over in the corner and Hemming’s conversion ended the match.

Rams travel to Gloucestershire this Saturday to take on Old Patesians.
