After starting the season at Irish at fly-half, Geraghty has moved to inside centre and been a revelation – the Exiles’ famous victory over Leicester at Welford Road a particular highlight.

Geraghty’s form led many to call for the 28-year-old to be recalled to the England squad for the first time since 2009 with the centre pairing causing head coach Stuart Lancaster a headache.

Gloucester skipper Billy Twelvetrees has been in less than sparkling form this season but appears likely to be given the nod for the first autumn Test against New Zealand regardless.

The queue behind Twelvetrees is long, with the likes of Brad Barritt, Kyle Eastmond and even Owen Farrell, options for Lancaster to look at.

And while pulling the strings and kicking the points superbly for the Exiles this season has added Geraghty’s name into that mix, Moody is adamant he can have no complaints about missing out.

“I think Shane has had his chance at international level, so it’s right that he’s not in the England squad,” said Moody, who is a LV= Cup ambassador.

“You can never say someone’s time has been and gone because if you’re playing well enough you’ve always got a chance of being picked, but it depends what you are building towards.

“There’s nothing particularly controversial about his choices – he’s gone with the guys playing the best rugby and the guys he knows.”

As Moody eludes to, some might think that at 28 and having made his Red Rose bow during the 2007 Six Nations, Geraghty’s England chance has been and gone.

But with Bath flyer Semesa Rokoduguni set to make his debut at 27, Moody insists there is still hope for Geraghty ahead of next year’s World Cup.

“If Stuart has a side of experienced guys who are still relatively young then you can afford to put in an older guy who has come out of nowhere,” Moody added.

“Semesa Rokoduguni at Bath is 27, so not exactly a young pup but has been given an opportunity because of his form.

“His form dictates that he has to be in there and that’s the way you should do it.”
