The 22-year-old switched Welford Road for the Madejski Stadium at the start of the new season and made his Premiership debut after three matches against Exeter Chiefs.

Lewington has since gone on to enter double figures and is set to feature this Sunday when Irish host Newcastle Falcons in their penultimate home game of the season (3pm ko).

The Exiles are highly unlikely to finish bottom and can not progress higher than seventh, but wing Lewington wants to cap off his own fine personal season with a best possible finish for The Exiles.

“I have loved it, it’s a big step up and I have really thoroughly enjoyed every game, and every chance. It has been great to play against the quality players and it was a great idea to move,” he said.

“I wanted to play in the Premiership and am getting the chance and the appearances. That is what I wanted, to establish myself as a player in the Premiership.

“And we want to finish as well as possible. We take a lot of pride in where we finish in the table and we can catch some teams over the last four games.

“We are looking to win every game and we have four more games to concentrate on and make sure we finish the season in the best possible way.”

While admitting to only knowing a handful of players at Irish prior to his move, Lewington did arrive at the Madejski Stadium with two others from the Tigers.

Jimmy Stevens and Jonny Harris also put pen to paper on three-year deals, and a settled Lewington is adamant he is learning every lesson that comes his way.

“I knew Marland Yarde through age-group rugby before coming and Kieran Low as well, and I moved down with a couple of boys from Leicester,” he added.

“I have learnt that you need to put in an 80-minute performance every time. If your concentration dips at any point it is difficult to get to the top level.”
