The news is likely to mean he will not play for the club again as his contract expires at the end of the season.

The South African, 33, was signed in December as injury cover for Halani Aulika but played just 20 minutes during a frustrating spell.

He twice failed late fitness tests after being named in the starting line-up and when he was eventually fit enough to play he only lasted a quarter of the match against Scarlets in January.

Meanwhile, Irish’s Chris Hala’ufia looks set to join Scarlets next season.

The 35-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, was spotted at Parc y Scarlets last Saturday watching Simon Easterby’s side take on Munster.

He has been capped 24 times by Tonga and has scored 18 tries in 110 appearances for Irish.

However, Ofisa Treviranus has been preffered at number eight in recent weeks and competition for the spot will heat up even more in the summer with the additions of Luke Narraway and Tom Guest.
