FOR the second successive week, serious injury marred a National Three South West game at the Old Bath Road.

Chinnor winger Ken Prinsloo suffered a double fracture of the leg and could not be moved until the ambulance arrived.

This resulted in a delay of over half an hour and with the light fading, the match was called off. It is likely to be replayed in February.

Rams were superior up front but wasted a string of chances, while the opposition made the most of theirs.

Head coach Mike Tewkesbury admitted: "We trailed because we made elementary mistakes which the opposition clinically exploited."

His side were not helped by a fourth-minute sin-binning of Michael Clarke by a referee who was eager to stamp his authority on the game but ignored subsequent transgressions.

This allowed Chinnor to take a 10-0 lead in the first quarter of an hour through a James Cathcart penalty and a touch- line conversion of a Liam Gilbert try.

Gensians reduced the arrears with a Dom Gosling touchdown after good build up work by props James Baker and Chris Rumble, Seb Reynolds providing the final pass.

But before the break, Chinnor stretched their lead to 12 points when Nick Harrison finished off a backs move and Cathcart again converted from wide out.

However, the Oxon visitors were under intense pressure in the set scrum and twice Gensians should have been awarded a penalty try just before half-time.

They continued to have the upper-hand in the curtailed second half but their backs lacked the guile to break down a tough Chinnor defence.

There was some hard graft from the Rams pack where former Under 21 hooker Chris Rowland made his debut and looks set to be an asset to the club.

The squad will be having fitness tests this week, before they resume training in the New Year for the tricky visit to Old Patesians on January 7.

Gensians: W Clarke; Gosling, Reynolds, Aaron Hopkins, Odejobi (W Clark 38); Brown, Flynn; Rumble, Rowland, Baker, Hallett, Turner, Amor, M Clarke, R Stapley. Reps: Thomas, C Stapley.
