BERKSHIRE's under-15 girls side took the top honours as Reading RFC hosted an inter-county rugby tournament on Sunday.

The Royal County side won all three of their games against Essex, Sussex and Oxfordshire on the way to securing the crown.

The Berkshire under-18s were also in action at Holme Park. They did not quite manage to emulate their younger team-mates, but they did manage to hold eventual winners Sussex, before finishing with a win against Oxfordshire.

The under-15s started off their romp to victory with a 19-7 win over Essex.

Merry Darvell was the star of the show with two tries, while Eleanor Bowyer also crossed and Ruth Dow added two conversions.

They followed this up with a hard-fought battle against Sussex, which was ultimately decided by a single score. Dow got the only try as Berkshire won 5-0.

The final match of the tournament against Oxfordshire proved a bit more one-sided with Cat McNatney scoring two tries, April Edgar grabbing one, and Dow adding a try and two conversions in a 24-5 win.

The under-18s started off with a heavy 24-0 defeat against Essex, but it was all good news after that.

They then held champions Sussex to a creditable draw, before going one better in a nail biter against Oxfordshire.

Both sides scored one try and in the end the only difference was Rebecca Moore's conversion to her own score which saw Berkshire edge to a 7-5 win.

Both Berkshire sides face the Bucks Jesters at Beaconsfield on Sunday.
