READING RFC girls coach Nicola Eames has picked up her second major honour of the year from the RFU.

The under-18s and under-15s head coach was named the RFUW Sue Garnett volunteer of the year back in July.

And last week she was one of 15 coaches across the country to pick up the Torch Trophy Trust award for her outstanding commitment to the sport.

Last season the under-18s team were national Cup and national Sevens champions as well as winning the Thames Valley League for the third year in a row.

Rosie Williams, managing director of the RFUW, said: "We are very pleased and proud that Nicola's achievements have been honoured by the Trust.

"She is a great ambassador for our sport, working tirelessly to promote the game and its values".

Eames added: "I was really flattered to get the award and quite shocked when I was told I'd even been nominated by the RFUW."

After last season a number of Reading's top players including England under-20 stars Hannah Field and Amy Millar moved into senior rugby, but Eames is confident that last year's success is not just a flash in the pan.

She said: "The season this year for the under-18s is very much a development one but the girls are showing real promise.

"The under-15s have also been doing well and are promising really good things as the season is progressing."
