Reading 24, Oxford Harlequins 42
AN OUTSTANDING debut for second row forward Rob Taylor, scorer of two of Reading's tries, was one of the few highlights for the hosts as they went down 42-24 against Oxford Harlequins at Holme Park.
Andy Grierson also touched down and Tom Goodhew added three conversions and a penalty. However the Green Machine had three players sent to the bin, and that ultimately proved costly.
Backs coach Sean Fanning said: "We had the better of the scrums and lineouts and played well at times.
"However, we can't afford to give away so many penalties and yellow cards. They scored four tries while we were down to 14 men. We have got to learn to manage the referee better."
