REDINGENSIANS director of rugby Gary Reynolds has praised the improvement of his side after they jumped back up to third in National Three South West.
The Old Bath Road side have the weekend off after recording back to back wins over Weston-super-Mare and Maidenhead.
They return to league action with a tough home game against second place Old Patesians. And Reynolds has challenged his side to prove they have learned from their mistakes in October's 50-17 drubbing by leaders Taunton.
He said: "I'm impressed by their resilience after that match.
"They have started to play the type of rugby necessary if we are to become promotion contenders.
"I thought our chances had gone but I'm a bit more confident following maximum points against Weston-super-Mare and Maidenhead."
And as well as being crucial to the first team's fortunes this season the game is also important for the club's work in the community.
Reynolds explains: "The Old Patesians game is a big one for us as we will be continuing our work in the community.
"We are giving free match sponsorship to the charity Autism Speaks to help them promote their work."
Gensians have built a reputation over the last few seasons for their open rugby.
But new coach Alun Rise, who took over in the summer, is looking to build a big skilful pack capable of taking the club to the next level in national rugby.
But Rise is a realist and admits the tranisition will take a bit of time. He said: "It won't happen overnight. It could take a year or two until we are there.
"It's been a sharp learning curve for the players. But we have to keep hammering home the message of playing a structured game.
"Our record is won seven lost four and it should be better. We lost games against Reading and Coney Hill we should have won."
Although the injury crisis has eased there are still long term worries concerning back row men Joe Hallett (shoulder) and Alex Dawkins (knee).
But second row Sam Hallett will be back next week following suspension after the Exmouth match.
Off the field Gensians continue to strengthen their support staff and Chris Bell has taken over the new position of first team manager. He had a similar role at Camberley for four years.
