THE season is rapidly coming to an end and our local rugby sides will soon be putting their kit and boots away for the summer.

It was a bad weekend for London Irish as they were thumped at home by Aviva Premiership table-toppers Exeter, leaving them needing a miracle to stay up.

Nine points behind Worcester with two games to play, they’ve got to beat Saracens – preferably with a bonus-point – a week on Sunday to keep their hopes alive ahead of a trip to Bath.

It’s been a really tough season for Exiles and I am sure part of them can’t wait for it to end so they can regroup for next season.

They are too good for the Championship, yet not quite good enough at Premiership level.

It must be very frustrating, but they’ll most likely need to invest in some new players if others follow Alex Lewington in leaving.

Redingensians also have two games remaining, and following their home win against Canterbury last Saturday, they can seal third spot in National Two South with a victory at Clifton.

It’s been a great season for Seb Reynolds’ men, and hopefully they can finish with a flourish against both Clifton and then in the derby against Henley.

As for my boys Reading, we enjoyed a comfortable success on our first ever trip to Gosford All Blacks.

It’s a shame the Southern Counties North season is finishing as we seem to have finally found some form – Saturday’s victory was our third straight.

We end our campaign at home to High Wycombe on Saturday, and if we can grab another win, it will be the first time we’ve got four in a row since way back in March, 2013.

There was more disappointment in what has been a tough season for Reading Abbey on Saturday, missed kicks costing them dearly in a one-point loss to Wallingford.

They're likely to finish one spot below us in eighth unless they produce a shock at promotion-chasing Windsor.

.Lastly – in a season where none of our sides bar Irish will be promoted or relegated – well done to Berkshire Shire Hall on finishing their BB&O Championship ventures with a win against Faringdon.
