IN-FORM Redingensians Rams wing Conor Corrigan says his side are building gradually after they returned to winning ways with a 29-17 National Two South home victory against Bury St Edmunds, writes Richard Ashton.

Fourth-placed Rams rebounded from their defeat at Taunton the previous week, securing a ninth win in 13 games this season.

Corrigan opened the scoring early on for his fourth try in five matches – collecting a delightful chip ahead from Olly Foxley – and he told the Chronicle: “It feels great to get back to winning ways and it was great effort from the boys.

“We knew we had to come out strong and we did that in the first half, we hit some good lines and made some big hits.

“It was the same in the second half although we dropped off a little bit towards the end. Our defence was outstanding in the last 10 minutes.”

He continued: “We’re looking to push on and go step by step. There’s more than half the season to go and we’ll look to build gradually.”

After Corrigan’s opening effort, Rams extended their lead around the 20-minute mark, scrum half Greg Illingworth going over before Will Affleck replied to cut the gap to 12-5 at half time.

The hosts started the second half brightly and were rewarded with a converted Andy Amor score, before Illingworth’s second sealed the bonus point.

Bury hit back courtesy of a Dwayne Corcoran try, but a Tom Humberstone penalty pushed Rams 29-12 in front with 10 minutes remaining.

The visitors ramped up the pressure, though, with Will Scholes scoring before Andy Berry was yellow carded for Rams.

However, Gensians held on to deny their opponents a point.

Reflecting on his own game and opponents, Corrigan said: “Bury are always a very good side. They play an exciting game and are a tough outfit.

“I’m in good form, I’ve been resting in and out of training and it’s done me some good.”

Redingensians travel to fifth-placed Canterbury on Saturday (3pm), with Corrigan adding: “Canterbury is always an interesting game, they’re a very strong side and they have some very quick backs. It’ll be an exciting game but we’re confident.”
