REDINGENSIANS Rams fell to a 36-14 defeat at a strong Chinnor side in their National Two South clash on Saturday.
Rams took an early lead courtesy of a Josh Collis turnover releasing Greg Illingworth try to run in from 40 metres out, Tom Humberstone converting.
The home side hit back when George Oliver powered over on 20 minutes, and Jonny Bentley followed up his conversion with a try shortly after. It was 14-7 to the hosts after he added the extras.
However, Rams went into the interval level after some fine off-loading culminated in Collis dotting down and Humberstone bisecting the uprights.
The key moment arrived early in the second half as a phenomenal Rams attack – lasting 16 phases – was repelled by the home side, who then went in front shortly after when Oliver collected his second score of the afternoon.
They moved further in front in the 68th minute when Rhys Lawrence went over, and after Bentley kicked a penalty to make it 29-14, Henry Lamont crossed the whitewash in the dying moments to rub salt into the Rams’ wounds. Bentley again converted.
Redingensians host another of the title favourites – Cinderford – on Saturday (2.30pm).
