IT never rains but it pours and for `my boys’ Reading, it’s chucking it down at the moment as nothing seems to be going our way.

Last Saturday was a typical example as we battled it out with visitors Grove and were deservedly leading at half time, only to give it away after the break and end up losing narrowly.

It’s so frustrating and I can imagine just how the squad feels but, hopefully, they can drag something out of their remaining three games to help ease the pain of relegation.

Mind you in saying that, who have we got this Saturday? Yes, we’re away to leaders Maidenhead, followed by a home game against third-placed Newbury and a final match away to fifth-placed Old Centralians.

They don’t come much tougher than that. So whatever points we can salvage from those three fixtures will be extremely hard and well-earned.

I’m glad to see Reading Abbey picked up a useful win over visitors Chippenham. It has eased their relegation worries somewhat, but with matches at Grove and Newbury sandwiching a home clash with Maidenhead, they’ve still got their work cut out to stave off the drop.

And it would be disastrous for the town if both ourselves and Abbey were to get relegated together.

Redingensians Rams are still flying the flag for the area and polished off Canterbury on their travels. It’s shored up their seventh place in National Two South and with four games to go they could still, although unlikely, possibly overhaul Cinderford for a sixth-place finish.

As for London Irish, their Green King IPA Championship unbeaten run came to a dramatic end as they lost their first match in 18 games away to Jersey Reds.

Not that it makes any real difference to their season as they are still 17 points clear of Yorkshire Carnegie and guaranteed to enter the play-offs as the top seeds, but, I’m sure they would have liked to have completed the season unbeaten.

Anyway, they’ve got a chance to gain swift revenge when they host the Channel Islanders this Saturday in the British & Irish Cup semi-finals.

It’s a long time since Exiles won any silverware, so I’m sure they’ll be up for it.
