THE Oratory School 1st VII picked up their first silverware of the year with victory in the plate competition at Oakham.
Having finished third in their group, they hammered St Edward’s, Oxford, 35-14 in the quarter-finals, edged past Denstone College 26-19 in a thrilling last-four clash and rounded off a successful day with a 24-12 success against Ipswich Boys in the final.
The impressive Under 16s were eliminated in the cup quarter-finals.
They beat Nottingham High 17-0 and St Joseph’s College, Ipswich 27-5 in the group stages and drew their other two matches 14-14 and 10-10 with Leicester Grammar and Loughborough Endowed Schools respectively.
They met their match in the last eight, though, losing 19-12 to an Uppingham side who ended as runners-up.
