The school stood up to strong challenges from Reading Blue Coat School in the Round of 32 on Wednesday and Montclair High School, of the USA, in the Round of 16 on Thursday, winning by 4.25 lengths and 2 lengths respectively.

However the crew – who were supported by 50 cheering pupils on Wednesday – saw their adventure come to an end in the quarter-finals on Friday, losing to eventual champions Eton College who are coached by former Pangbourne rowing coach Alex Henshilwood.

The team’s journey to the quarter-finals followed on from the 1st VIII’s National Schools Regatta Child Beale Cup win in a very successful season for Pangbourne.

The 2014 team comprised Thea Swan as cox, David Morgan, Jack Wood, Hector Butcher, Theo Grabiner, Ben Maxwell, George Pearce, Luke Towers and Felix Lammers at stroke.

The summer’s rowing is not over for two of the Pangbourne College Boat Club with Luke Towers and George Pearce taking part in GB Rowing Team trials for the opportunity to row for their country in Under-U18 competitions at either the World Junior Championships in Hamburg, or the Coupe de la Jeunesse in Libourne.
