Knapper and partner Samuel Tolchard took on Namibia in the pairs competition at Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre on Monday.

But their chances of a medal took a hit when Knapper picked up a back injury in the early stages of the game.

However, Taplow-born Knapper played through the pain barrier to secure a bronze.

He and Tolchard led Namibia 19-12 after 17 tough ends before their opponents conceded the game with one end still to play.

It was the start of a memorable day for Tilehurst after former Tilehurst Swimming Club star, Adam Barrett, also won bronze in the 100m butterfly last night.

The 21-year-old put in a strong finish in Glasgow to claim third place behind Singapore’s Joseph Schooling and Sough African winner Chad le Clos, who set a new Commonwealth Games record time of 51.29secs.

Barrett had already won bronze in the men’s 4x100m freestyle alongside Adam Brown, James Disney-May and Ben Proud at the weekend.
