ROYALS boss Brian McDermott confirmed tonight he never held talks with Wolverhampton Wanderers over the vacant managerial position.
Speaking at the press conference at the Madejski Stadium this evening, he said: "I didn't speak to them."
Chief executive Nigel Howe added: "We've always had a very good relationship with Jez Moxey (Wolves chief executive).
"We had a simple conversation where I said, sorry, the manager is involved in contract negotiations and I will come back to you if that changes.
"He was very cordial about it and that's where it was left."
McDermott stressed how important it was for him to show his loyalty to the players by signing a new deal.
"I've received great support from them," he said. Anton got Jason Roberts, Tomasz Cywka and Jason Collonny in for us and Jimmy Kebe signed a new deal.
"They committed to me and I committed to them.
"It was really important I did the same for them."
Speaking about new owner Anton Zingarevich, McDermott added: "I had a conversation with Anton and he said something which will remain between him and I, but which was really important to me.
"It's really important the manager and owner are side-by-side.
If that wasn't the case we would have had a problem. But it's not the case here, he's a good guy."
In further developments, Thames Sports Investment's Chris Samuelson said the takeover could be completed earlier than expected.
Commenting at the press conference, he said: "We're happy with the progress.
"The end of March is still the deadline and we will see if we can do it sooner."
