SHANE Long insists Brendan Rodgers is the right man to take Reading forward - be he admits results need to quickly improve.

Rodgers' is coming under an increasing level of pressure from supporters following the team's worrying start to the season.

The 4-1 defeat at QPR on Tuesday night was Reading's third loss in a row and leaves them languishing in 21st position, just three points off the bottom.

By the time they host Leicester City on Monday night (live Sky Sports, 8pm ko), the Royals could be entrenched in the relegation zone if any of the three teams below them pick up a win this Saturday when Peterborough host Scunthorpe and the bottom two teams, Plymouth and Ipswich, play each other.

But Long declared: "Brendan is a great manager, I hold him in the highest regard. I honestly don't think he can do much more than what he is doing.

"At the end of the day, it's down to the players to go out there and do the business on the pitch. We haven't been doing that but it's not Brendan's fault."

ROYALS reserves thrashed Swansea City reserves 4-0 away from home thanks to an Abdulai Bell-Baggie brace and further strikes from Alex Pearce and Jacob Walcott.
