Tommy Smith
TOMMY Smith is poised to turn down Wolves to re-join Brendan Rodgers at Reading.
And Rodgers could be set to launch an audacious seven-figure bid to bring Nottingham Forest star Nathan Tyson back to the Royals.
The Chronicle can exclusively reveal Reading have won the race to sign the 29-year-old Watford striker who is set to shun a move back to the Premier League.
It is understood the ex-Derby and Sunderland star could complete his move within the next week for a fee of about £800,000.
And sources in the east Midlands say Reading have also inquired about Tyson who played under Rodgers when he was in charge of the Royals' Academy.
Rodgers refused to confirm the Smith signing, but he admitted the club are in the market for a new striker following Kevin Doyle"s £6.5 million move to Wolves this week.
'Losing Kevin means we are obviously looking to bring someone in,' explained Rodgers. 'He scored 18 goals last season even though he missed quite a few games through injury.
'When you lose 18 goals you have to replace it.'
