Please release me: Stephen Hunt is seeking a "fresh start" away from Reading.

STEPHEN Hunt"s days as a Reading player look to be numbered after revealing he is seeking a 'fresh start.'

The 27-year-old Republic of Ireland international appears to be hankering for a move from the Madejski Stadium back into the Premier League.

He was close to going in January following strong interest from Wigan and Everton. But no-one would match Reading"s £5 million asking price.

He ended up signing a new three-year deal with the Royals that included a similar £5 million get-out clause.

But it is thought Reading"s failure to win promotion back to the top flight was the last straw for Hunt.

Reports suggest Everton are now lining up a £10 million swoop for Hunt as well as striker Kevin Doyle, who has also been linked with Aston Villa and West Ham.

Hunt told Sky Sports News 'My own situation is that I am happy at Reading, but in terms of my future, I"ve been loyal to Reading, maybe a fresh start would be good for me and the club.

'I think me and the club agree it is time for a fresh start. I don"t know about that (Everton). I can"t talk about other clubs.'

Meanwhile, Brynjar Gunnarsson"s future also remains in the balance despite being offered a one-year deal by new boss Brendan Rodgers.

It is understood the 33-year-old Iceland midfielder is looking for a longer contract elsewhere.

His agent Olafur Gardarsson stated: 'He hasn"t rejected the offer but he is mulling over his options.

'He"s got the offer of a one-year contract and he is considering that and also other offers from clubs in the Championship.'
