READING FC hope to complete the signing of Russian striker Pavel Pogrebnyak later this week.

Royals have agreed personal terms with the 28-year-old free-agent who passed a medical last week.

The ex-Stuttgart ace is set to become the top earner at the Madejski Stadium on a reported £30,000 per week after Reading gazumped Premier League rivals Fulham to secure his services on a three-year deal.

The signing of Pogrebnyak, who featured for Russia during Euro 2012, will be confirmed when Reading obtain a UK work permit.

He will become the club's second signing in a week following the capture of Danny Guthrie on a free transfer from Newcastle United.

The 25-year-old central midfielder has agreed a three-year deal and said: "It feels brilliant to have everything agreed, it is a great honour and I am very excited.

" As soon as I met the manager and Nick Hammond (director of football) my mind was made up, it was a no-brainer."

Newly-promoted Royals made their first signing of the close season back in May with the arrival of ex-Nottingham Forest winger Garath McCleary.
