Report commentI got the call from "The Rouge" at about 11.15, just as I was passing the Keep Moat stadium on the Coach.
I had decided to use this mode of transport, as in this times of austerity, it was sure to save me a few bob. This preferred method of transport wasn't without its pitfalls however, as I was soon to discover when leaving my London home at 6.00 am and to minus temperatures. Once I had negotiated the now expected underground closures, my next feat was to decipher that there was in fact NO coach service from St Pancreas! Despite no indication on the web site or ticket, it transpired it was a train journey initially, with a coach transfer at midland park way.
Feeling particularly proud of myself for leaving enough time to overcome this latest set back, I started to thaw while tucking in to my bacon sandwich and working out how many places we were going to climb after today's victory. It was then that the call came.. and all my prudence in taking a complicated and very early journey to Doncaster appeared to come back hit me like a Rougier own goal in a play-off final!
Determined not to let my trip be waisted, I left The Rouge, Negative Jeff and Ash in the pub and proceeded to nearby Conisbrough (a short train ride) to visit the 12th century Norman castle. The ninety seven foot high circular keep was particularly impressive.
As the snow began to fall, It felt somewhat surreal, that I was at a deserted castle in the middle of Yorkshire, rather than watching the Royals playing as I am accustomed. With "scoring in a Nogan wonderland" going round in my head, I set off back to the pub to find the others, contemplating an away trip I wouldn't forget in a while!

Report commentWas in Manchester Saturday morning on a trip that looped around to Donny then back to Reading, was just leaving Manchester when a friend alerted me the game was off. Managed to get a ticket in the away end at WBA v Swansea.
Hoping I can make the rescheduled Donny game but so glad I got to see Sigurdsson's first Premiership goal......

Report commentNice story, Jon. Shame you spoilt it by the use of "waisted". I think you meant "wasted"!
