Left-back pens long-term deal
JOSEPH Mills has signed a new contract with Reading FC.
Mills, younger brother of ex-Reading skipper Matt, was facing an uncertain future as he only a signed a 12 month deal when he joined from Championship rivals Southampton last summer.
But earlier today the 22-year-old left-back put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at Madejski Stadium until summer 2014.
"I'm delighted to have signed the contract," he said. "When I joined I knew I had to make an impression because I only signed until the end of the season.
"Luckily, I got a good run of games to show people what I'm capable. I think I've worked hard and improved and I think the manager saw that and rewarded me with a new deal."
Mills is one of three players at the club vying for the left-back position along with Ian Harte and Andy Griffin.
Royals also failed with an audacious bid to sign Manchester City left-back Wayne Bridge before the transfer deadline closed last week.
Meanwhile, Mills has recovered from an ankle injury and could be recalled to the starting line-up for Reading's home fixture against Coventry City at Madejski Stadium this Saturday (3pm ko).
Fit-again winger Jimmy Kebe, who also signed a new deal recently, is back in full training and likely to return.

Report commentWhat is this obsession with an overated and overpaid, past his prime left back who did not exactly set Upton Park alight last season. So pleased he didnt arrive at the Royals. Creativity in midfield is waht is sorely needed to make the difference between hovering just outside the play offs and making ground on the teams above us.
