Reading 1 - 0 Bristol City

JASON Roberts marked an impressive Reading debut with the winning goal against 10-man Bristol City.

The 34-year-old Blackburn Rovers signing fired a 58th minute penalty past David James to clinch a crucial victory that moved Royals up to fourth in the Championship table.

It also left City with a mountain to climb after seeing captain Louis Carey red carded for chopping Roberts down in the box.

Roberts was a livewire all afternoon until he was subbed late on.

And fellow new signing Tomasz Cywka also made an impact on his debut by winning Reading's second penalty of the day in the 90th minute.

Sadly, skipper Jobi Mcanuff's spot-kick was superbly saved by James but Royals held on to claim a second win in five league matches.
