READING manager Brian McDermott has blasted Jack Collison for nearly ending Jimmy Kebe's career.
Collison was red carded for steaming into the Royals winger during West Ham's 3-0 defeat at Madejski Stadium last weekend.
Kebe, 27, was seen pulling up his socks while in possession of the ball, sparking a furious reaction from 23-year-old Collison.
McDermott initially played the incident down and denied Kebe was showboating with Royals already 2-0 up and Hammers down to 10 men.
But yesterday (Wednesday) he lambasted Collison's actions after reviewing the video again.
He told the Chronicle: "No way would we take the mickey out of another player. Jimmy Kebe does that to his socks from time to time, I have video evidence to prove it.
"He did it with the ball at his feet at the weekend which some may have construed as taking the mickey.
"But he hasn't meant it that way, it was just something he does."
And he fumed: "I saw the tackle and that could have ended Jimmy's career. How anybody can justify that is beyond me.
"Credit to Sam Allardyce because he didn't defend it and said it came out of frustration. But that doesn't hide the fact one of my players could have suffered serious injury."
The incident dominated both local and national airwaves after the match and was debated on television.
And McDermott fumed: "I listened to what was said on tv and radio and I couldn't get my head around it. People were justifying a tackle like that when some hadn't even seen the incident.
"It was ridiculous, He could have put Jimmy in hospital."

Report commentHe deserved everything he got, it's just a shame Jack didn't break both Kebe's legs so that he wouldn't need to pull his socks up for a couple of months.
Reading were only 2 up, not six, and were never going to win the game when it was 11 v 11. So for a mediocre talent like Kebe to think he is in a position to disrespect another player is pure arrogance.
Were are Reading in the table?
McDermott is an imbecile if he believes what he says. An imbecile that looks like an egg in glasses.

Report commentIf it had stayed 11 v 11 West Ham would have won with ease.
There isn't a single player on the Reading team that would make West Ham's squad, let alone the team!! who are ya??
The real issue is that West ham shouldn't be playing small insignificant clubs like Reading, we'll soon be back where we belong in the Premiership.

In any standard if someone does that then you know you are gonna get it and if you then go down like a woman it just shows what you are !!! I was playing in a vets game a few months ago and a player on the other side called nuts to a player in our side who never ever retaliates but even he did !!! I then pulled the player about it and he apologised and said he knew someone would do him . Mc who , a career breaking tackle !!! You look what you are mate ..... a prick !!!!

Report commentYeah because West Ham were clearly dominating at 11v11? Even if Obrien hadn't been sent off it would have been 1-0 as the foul that saw him sent off was a clear one and we then scored from the free kick. The reason you lost West Ham "fans" was because your players were as arrogant as you are and believed they could walk over last years play off finalists which evidently you couldn't, they lost their discipline and threw a strop. If you are "too good" for the championship why have you lost 4 games this year, why did you get relegated ahead of a team as poor as Wigan and why are you second and not first?

Report commentCollison shouldn't have reacted like he did.
Unfortunately though, he allowed a small player at a small club to get the better of him.
If that's the standard Reading fans expect of their 'key' players (Jimmy who?), then I hope we do get promoted this year so we don't have to compete with a side like that again.
He was taking the mick and he knows it. As does the Reading manager, but will deny it.
Maybe next time one of Kebe's colleagues would politely remind him of how many points we are clear of his team.

Report commentNolan was a joke. Even before the incident with the socks, Nolan was shoving & holding Kebe. Kebe clearly had Nolan niggled before the socks incident. Once they went 1 man down, where was Nolan's captaincy? Did he even make an attempt at reorganising his side? No, he was too preoccupied with Kebe to even think that Jobi was a threat and let him waltz right through his gaping defence. Totally unprofessional job I'm afraid; one which got its just rewards.

It was a push as well and Kebe went down with too much ease.yes collision over reacted and it was red but you can't wind the opposition up like that. Reading fans - if it had been the other way round you would understand. But clearly you are idiotic, like your manager.
Career ending tackle....yeah whatever. I bet he didn't even get a bruise or scratch on him.

Bitter bitter West Ham fans. If the West Ham players hadn't bent over and given up on the game he wouldn't have had the time to have a little itch of his leg!
Typical mockneys who can't accept that their team are getting a bit wobbly so blame anyone except their own team and manager.

Report commentWell done the Hammers' fans for showing the rest of us how true fans behave.
Belittling the opposition in a way far more disrespectfull than anything Kebe did, over-inflating the stature of your once-great club in a way that borders on self-delusion, justifying acts of thuggery (from a team full of kickers) because you weren't winning a game you thought you had won before a ball was kicked. I could add more.
This whole "little nothing club" syndrome you have when playing anyone outside the big 5 (and no, you're not one of them either) is tiresome. You're in the same league - get over it - because your overpaid, overrated and ill-disciplined prima donnas got you there in the first place. With your wage bill and debt, you'll be lucky to still have a club if you're playing us when the next fixture list is printed.
I actually hope you do go up though, as it means some other "lucky" clubs will have to put up with your inane rantings and laughable sense of self-importance and worth.

Report commentMore jealous fans.
Pop down to the Boleyn Ground and you will never see a West Ham player pulling his socks up are taking the mick out of any side, no matter how big or small.
What Kebe did was far worse than Collison's 'tackle'. When I say 'tackle', I mean that little push that sent him flying. I assume Kebe won't play tomorrow because of that career ending shove.
We Hammers know that clubs are jealous of our history. We have good players on big wages. Get over it. That's what happens when you've been in the PL for six years on the spin.
Well played Reading. You beat us fair and square.
But I would rather lose 3-0 than watch one of my players belittling the opposition like that. It's the lowest of the low.

Report commentEx-professionals all said Kebe was taking the rise, as has anyone that's seen it. It's only Mr Benn and 12,000 or so Reading fans that say otherwise as they are all engaged in a siege mentality because everyones having a go at little Readings poor Jimmy Kebe. But you know you're wrong and we understand you're just defending your player. Bless.
I don't think you'll find many WHU fans claiming we are a footballing team at the moment. Far from it, but it's horses for courses. You're just jumping on media and historical preconceptions.
As for having 'thug' players and committing careers threatening tackles, didn't you used to cheer on that toerag Stephen Hunt? Ask Petr Cech what he thinks of HIM!
Even if 75% of us had left by the time Kebe went for an Oscar, you've still got the gate money from your biggest game of the season, so what's the problem? You'll now be able to buy another couple of Irish nobodies to pad your team out with next season
BTW, it's better the be a has-been than a never-been. But you'll never find that out...

But is Mr Ben being serious?! "career ending" is a joke. Stephen Hunt on Petr Cech anyone? People in football have very short memories.
Jack went in over the ball and gave Kebe a push. Nothing less than he deserved.
I naturally hope our players welcome Kebe to East London with open arms.. Be prepared though.. The away end Upton Park is a lot different to the Waitrose stand in your lego stadium.

Report commentit's true jimmy is always messing about with his socks and shin pads, i've seen it a hundred times from him, jobi mcanuff said the same about jimmy after the game....but he's never done it in possession before..! that was his mistake for sure! and it was understandably construed as taking the mick.
Anyone who has watched jimmy regularly will know that he is just about the last player that would take the "micky" out of a fellow proffessional, he wouldn't tackle a paper bag let alone invite/ encourage aggression from other players towards him.
but he's learnt a lesson...mess about with your socks all you like, but not when you've got the ball!
genuinely i wish good luck to west ham for the rest of the season, i hope you pip southampton to the title.

Report commentWhen were West Ham a great club, exactly? Did I miss their European Cup triumphs, or their League titles? In the last 40 years their best two players have been a poor man's Tony Currie (Brooking) and a bloke who was mysteriously 'injured' when they played away league games against the big boys (Di Canio). As for being a Cockney club, have Southend and Basildon been re-located to Newham?
Reading are a relatively small club. Thankfully we've never been big enough to employ quality people such as Avram Grant, Karen 'yes Lord Sugar' Brady, or Kevin 'no pace, no skill, no class' Nolan.
Maybe Collinson and O'Brien can spend their weekend off in Mark Boogers caravan.

Report comment@ H.A.T.E.R Sorry I was responding to a couple of points there.. the first being it's all well and good to be critical of a modern stadium like ours but West Ham are going to be in exactly the same type of construction very soon.. it's called progress (if you ever went to elm park you would appreciate that).
As for living in the past.. You are a top 6 championship team, you might get promoted, good luck to anyone who does, it is a tough league.. you are NOT a premiership team, not one of the big boys, in fact you are more Charlton Athletic than Chelsea!!
The issue being debated was the 'tackle' on Kebe.. was it bad, YES was Kebe taking the P*ss, probably.. did you deserve to get anything from the game.. NO!
One last thing... Can we play you every week?

In the PL, we're not a big club.
