ROYALS boss Brian McDermott has been named the Championship Manager of the Month for April.

The 50-year-old clinched the award after five successive victories against Portsmouth, Preston North End, Nottingham Forest, Scunthorpe United, and Leicester City at the start of the month.

It is the third time McDermott has been nominated for the award in the last four months, but the first time he has won it this season.

Meanwhile, Royals players and staff will conduct a lap of honour around Madejski Stadium after the final whistle has blown at the end of tomorrow's clash against Derby County.

And McDermott hopes fans stay behind to show their support ahead of next week's Championship's play-offs.

"The last thing we want is to put on a good performance and then have nobody to wave to," joked McDermott. "So I hope they stay behind. We've got a great relationship with the fans."

** READING'S Player of the Season will be announced before tomorrow's kick-off.

Shane Long, Jimmy Kebe and Jem Karacan make up the three-man shortlist in the club's official, Chronicle-sponsored awards **
