Leeds United 0 - 0 Reading

ROYALS boss Brian McDermott insisted his side's goalless draw at Leeds United puts them a point closer to promotion.

Reading's eight-match winning run came to an end at Elland Road in Friday night's televised clash.

But McDermott's men remain unbeaten in 13 league games and are still in the hunt for promotion.

"We saw two sets of players who put in a real good shift for their clubs tonight," stated Royals' boss.

"I was really proud of my players tonight. We looked really organised, composed on the ball.

"And we tried to win it. We weren't going to sit back - it's not how I want to do things. We try to win each and every game we go into, that's how we play.

"We had Mathieu Manset, Simon Church and Shane Long on the pitch at the end, but we just couldn't nick the win. It wasn't to be.

"I have nothing but respect for our players. And that might prove to be a really good point for us."

For the second time this season, Royals and Leeds drew 0-0, and McDermott added: "Leeds really raised the tempo in the second half and we expected that; they are battling to get into the play-offs.

"Alex made some important saves and that was a part of getting us the point.

"So their manager will be really happy with his players and their spirit, as I am with ours.

"It is a good point. This a good side and the crowd here were really noisy - they got behind their team and they stayed with them right until the 93rd minute."
