Battling: Tabb has been an important squad player for Reading this season.

JAY Tabb believes that Reading have the best squad depth in the Championship after they recorded a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Scunthorpe this week.

The win is Royals' seventh-straight league triumph and they are now on course to topple second-placed Cardiff City and elevate themselves into the automatic promotion positions.

However, while the likes of Shane Long and Ian Harte have stolen the headlines for their goal-scoring exploits lately, Tabb insists that Reading's squad has been a major factor in carrying them up into the play-offs.

"I honestly think we've got the strongest squad depth in the league. You just have to look at the players in the stand for this game - Ivar [Ingimarsson], Brynjar [Gunnarrson], Shaun Cummings, Brian Howard, Jake Taylor. I really think our next 11 would finish in the top half of the Championship, which is great for the manager but must be a headache as well," he commented.

With injuries and suspensions hitting the first-team hard in the last couple of months, there is little doubt that the squad players at Reading have stepped up to the plate.

The likes of Brian Howard, Hal Robson-Kanu and Ingimarsson have all been given the nod by Brian McDermott in different games and they have all delivered the goods on the pitch.

Indeed, Tabb is another player who has eased his way into the starting XI in recent months and he says he is enjoying not only the winning run, but also being part of the group.

"Given what is at stake, we will all stick together, we are in it together. We've won seven in a row now which I think is my best run as a player and we're thoroughly enjoying it - but you're only as good as your last game, so we have to make sure we put on a performance at Leicester," he said.

"The thing with us is that we keep it simple, we do the basics well and have got players who can change games.

"We remember what we're good at, you look at the pitch at Scunthorpe and you're never going to put together 600 passes to pass them off the park. It will always be a slog, a tough game, but we're good enough to adapt."
