READING have won the race to sign Hereford United hotshot Mathieu Manset.
The club have confirmed the French striker will initially join on loan to enable him to play against Hull City this weekend and a permanent deal will then be finalised next week.
His contract at Madejski Stadium will run until the summer of 2013 but the transfer fee has not been disclosed.
Royals were among a string of Championship clubs fighting for the 21-year-old striker's signature along with Burnley and Crystal Palace, while Charlton Athletic and Bournemouth had also been linked.
Boss Brian McDermott said: "Mathieu first came to our attention in May 2008 when we saw him playing for Le Havre against Lyon and we've tracked his development ever since. In the last few months his goalscoring record speaks for itself, there was lots of interest from Championship clubs and once again we're very lucky, pleased and excited he has joined us."
The French-born target man has netted 13 goals for League Two Bulls this season.
He has become Reading's third signing this week following the arrival of Swindon Town defender Sean Morrison, 20, for around £300,000 and 23-year-old Eastleigh striker Brett Williams for £50,000.
Meanwhile, Academy star Jacob Walcott, 18, has joined Dutch second division outfit Telstar for the rest of the season and he could make his debut against FC Eindhoven tonight.
**** EX-ROYALS favourites Nicky Forster and Ady Williams will be the special guests at the STAR fans' forum which takes place in the Princess Suite at Madejski Stadium on Friday, January 27 (7.30pm).
